On Thursday, April 7, health authorities in Canada, Europe and the U.S. asked drug manufacturer Pfizer to discontinue sales of Bextra. As a result, it is no longer possible to order Bextra from our pharmacy.

The suspension of sales was based on the FDA's claim that Bextra, a drug primarily used to treat the pain associated with arthritis, may cause a potentially fatal skin reaction. Although Pfizer disagrees with the FDA's position, it has agreed to suspend sales of the medication pending further discussion.

Bextra is classified as a COX-2 inhibitor, which is the same class as Vioxx, an arthritis drug withdrawn from the market in 2004, after FDA tests indicated it increased the risk of heart attack and stroke in patients.

If you normally order Bextra from our pharmacy:

One of our representatives will contact you to discuss the cancellation of your order. Pharmacists will be available to advise patients on medications that can be used instead of Bextra. We also recommend you speak directly to your physician about your options.

If you have been taking Bextra and are experiencing a skin reaction, please contact your primary physician immediately.

Our pharmacy is not accepting Bextra for return or exchange at this time. If Bextra is withdrawn from the market permanently, please send your unused supply directly to Pfizer for a refund.

If you have any question, please call us at 1-866-558-8705.
